The clinical evaluation of correcting mild maxillary protrusion by molar distalization with face-bow appliance

Objective To investigate clinical result of correcting mild maxillary protrusion by molar distalization with face-bow appliance.Methods A retrospective study on clinical data of 30 patients with Class Ⅱ malocclusion and maxillary protrusion was carried out.The maxillary first molars were moved distally by face bow,and then by Edgewise appliance.The cephalometric films before and after treatment were measured and compared.Results The position of anterior teeth were improved significantly in all patients.The average reduction of Mss-Y,Iss-Y and ⊥-SN were 4.5 mm,4.47 mm and 14.33°.The average increase of ⊥-T was 16.21°.There was statistically significant difference before and after treatment.Conclusion The clinical result of face-bow appliance was significant in the correcting of mild maxillary protrusion,and should be promoted clinically.
