Abstract
With the deficiency of traditional design methods for highway alignment as well as the limitation of evaluating highway alignment quality by means of the speed,the concept of curvature changing rate is put forward for the first time according to the new idea of design safty supremacy and it is pointed out that curvature changing rate is an important effect factor for highway traffic security.Safty evaluation criteria of curvature changing rate and its applications in highway alignment design can be used effectively in checking and assessing the design achievements of highway alignment,and can provide scientific basis for technical parameter of highway alignment design,which offers a new method for road safety evaluation.
