Abstract
Objective The aim of the study was to investigate the autonomic nerve activity by baroreflex sensitivity(BRS) analysis, so as to evaluate part of the mechanism of essential hypertension. Methods BRS was measured noninvasively in patients with essential hypertension aged 40~74 years( n =40), and age matched normotensive subjects. Results BRS decreased significantly in hypertensive patients compared with normotensive controls and was correlated closely with age. Conclusion The autonomic nerve function is significantly impaired in hypertensives. Its dysfunction may play an important role in hypertension.
