Abstract

Objective To delay the senescence of leaf vegetables such as green vegetables, leeks, celeries, Lpomoea aquatica Forsk and cabbages, lower their rotting in storage period and prolong their storage life in cooling storage of warships in order to obtain fresh leaf vegetables for seamen during long distance voyage. Methods In the simulated cold storage condition of warships with the temperature of 2 ℃ or 9 ℃ these vegetables were stored in three different kinds of packages. Results Packaging with the fresh keeping bags combined with 2 ℃ as temperature condition effectively prevented these leaf vegetables from yellowing, shrinking and decaying and prolonged their storage life by 4~25 d. Conclusions The storage effect on leaf vegetables is better when they are in the condition of 2 ℃ combined with packaging with fresh keeping bags.
