Abstract
Starting from the historical development of the Chinese writings in vernacular, this paper illustrates the issue of half literate and half vernacular of modern writings. It also analyses many examples shown in the Chinese textbooks of junior middle schools and points out the modality and standardized roles which should be played by the Chinese textbooks in the historical development of Chinese writings in vernacular. The writings can make the later generations know the lively oral Chinese from the written language of modern Chinese,on the other hand it can help the junior middle school students to understand the classical Chinese writings in the vernacular Chinese textbooks.
