Abstract
ObjectiveTo study the features of plasma cell leukemia(PCL).MethodsThe clinical data of 5 cases of PCLand 10 cases of multiple myeloma(MM) during the same time admitted in our hospital from 1980 to 2002 were reviewed. Thecomparison in clinical manifestations、 laboratory features and response to therapy were made between PCL andMM.ResultsThe patients with PCL had some characteristics:①younger with a median age of 43.5 years;②acute occur-rence and shorter interval from occurrence to confirmed diagnosis;③more frequent symptoms including bleeding, hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, lymphadenectasis, sternal fenderness and fever;④higher percentages of plasmablasts;⑤lowerresponse rates to therapy. ConclusionsPCL is a special kind of disease which is different from MM.
