Abstract

To investigate the biological effects of DDT,one of the endocrine disrupting chemicals,on marine copepods,this paper studied the acute toxicity and sub-lethal effect of DDT on Pseudodiaptomus poplesia,and measured the metamorphosis,survival,fecundity,sex ratio,and body length of P.poplesia exposed to 3.5,35,and 350 ng·L-1 of DDT.The 48 h LC50 and 96 h LC50 were 6.75 μg·L-1 and 3.53 μg·L-1,respectively.When exposed to each concentration DDT,the P.poplesia showed a reduced metamorphosis rate in the first generation.At 350 ng·L-1 of DDT,the survival,egg production,and the percentage of gravid females all reduced.No significant effects were observed in the sex ratio and body length of P.poplesia exposed to each concentration DDT.Based on these results and the literatures about nearshore water body organochlorine pesticides pollution,it was deduced that DDT could cause high ecological risk to nearshore copepods.
