ON SHEN JING'S AND TANG XIAN-ZU'S OPERA WRITING THEORIES AND THEIR INFLUENCE

In argument between Shen Jing and Tang Xian-zu,Shen firmly advocates the rhythmical and the theory of innate characters,which plays an important part in reversing unhealthy writing atmosphere in mid-Ming Dynasty and represents pursuit of beauty of music and form in opera writing theory in late Ming.However,Shen Jing's theory ignores ideological content of operas,which objectively brings about unhealthy effect on Wujiang School's opera writing and appreciation in late Ming.On contrary,Tang Xian-zu advances that focus of opera writing is interest,charm and expression.He emphasizes ambiguous meaning and interest and charm,attaches importance to ideological content of operas,and issues such as wit and interest,spirit resemblance and so on,which plays an important role in promoting writing of Linchuan School in late Ming.
