Abstract

Based on the causes and characteristics of spontaneous combustion of coal stockpiles, the simulation experiments of coal spontaneous combustion of a coal stockpile were conducted to study the processes of spontaneous heating and its associated temperature field and carbon monoxide. The study indicates that the external environment has significant impact on the occurrence of spontaneous heating of a coal stockpile. The change of inside and surface temperatures of the stockpile is of a dynamic reciprocal process, coal temperatures rises and heating are progressing upwards. The temperature time change for a point follows an exponential function, while at the same time temperatures at different positions follows reciprocal (negative) exponential function in relation to its distance to the heating source.
