Abstract
Denunciation essays and official persuasive writings of the Southern dynasties had some similarities and differences between them. With respect to functions, denunciation essays were mainly used for military purposes while persuasive writings were used in discussions of state affairs with the author's fellow ministers, focusing on the intentions of the author and persuading his colleagues. In terms of applicable objects, denunciation essays were often against wrong-doers while official persuasive essays aimed at ministers whose politics disagreed with the author in the beginning but ended up the same. Such essays adopted the parallel style and were of high aesthetic value.
