Abstract
Objective:To investigate the effects of Naoshangtai (NST) in treating learning and memory function and calbindin (CAB) of hippocampus in rats with vascular dementia (VD).Methods:Pulsinelli's vascular occlusion method was adopted to establish a model of vascular dementia in Wistar rats which were subsequently treated with NST.Learning and memory functions were evaluated by the active avoidance response (AAR).The hippocampus were then stained with immunohistochemistry to detect the expession of CaB. Results:Significant changes of correcting AAR in VD rats were observed. The expressions of CaB had significantly increased in hip- pocampus in NST-treated group after 6 and 8 weeks' treatment. Conclusion:NST treatment could improve the learning and memory function and improve up-regulating the expressions and CaB in hippocampus in rats suffering from VD.
