Abstract
The surface morphology, physical and mechanical properties of PLA fibers were tested in this research, and were made a comparison with polyester fibers. This paper also studied the water absorption of PLA fibers, fibers' contraction in alkaline detergent as well as the fibers' strength damage in acids, alkalis and organic solvents. The results showed that the breaking tenacity and shape of PLA fibers were similar to PET fibers, the water absorption of PLA fibers was lower than cotton fibers but higher than PET fibers,PLA fibers' shrinkage and the loss rate were very high in alkaline conditions, fibers' ability of resisting to acids, alkalis and organic solvents was shown in the order: acetone hydrochloric acidsodium carbonate sodium hydroxide.
