Investigation On HIV/AIDS Related Knowledge Level Among Different Populations In Tongling City

Objective To study HIV/AIDS related knowledge level among different populations in Tongling,and provide scientific bases for taking HIV/AIDS control measures.Methods 2 128 people who were selected randomly from urban residents,rural residents,adolescents in school and migrant workers by stratified-cluster sampling were investigated by face-to face questionnaires.Results The general awareness rate about HIV/AIDS basic knowledge in four groups was 64.8%,it was 84.7% in urban residents,71.4% in rural residents,52.3% in adolescents and 70.1% in migrant workers respectively,and there was significant differences in the general awareness rate among 4 groups(χ2=134.244,P= 0.001).The proportion of subjects who understood HIV could be transmitted via blood was higher,but there is a lack of understanding of transmission by sexual contact,the right answer to the question that sexual activity with a fixed partner can reduce the transmission of HIV/AIDS accounted for only 57.5%.The right answer to whether mosquito biting could lead to AIDS transmission accounted for 38.3%.TV,magazines and books,the free publicity materials were the main ways to obtain AIDS related knowledge.Conclusion The awareness rates of HIV/AIDS knowledge among four kinds of populations in Tongling are all lower than the related requirements of national plan.Enhancing the health education on AIDS control,especially aimed at the key crowd,such as adolescents,should be one of the important works of AIDS control.
