Abstract

The contents of the total phenolics and total flavonoids from the extracts of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa fruit without seeds were extracted with the same volume solvents water and 80% methanol and quantified. The antioxidant activities of the two extracts were screened using the total antioxidant capacity and the scavenging activities of DPPH and ABTS radicals. The results showed that both extracts of R. tomentosa fruit exhibited varying degrees of the polyphenol content and the antioxidant activity, the extractives from the 80% methanol exhibited significant higher contents of total phenolics, total flavonoids, stronger total antioxidant capacity and radical scavenging abilities on DPPH and ABTS than that from water. The results revealed that the polyphenol extractives from R. tomentosa fruit had good antioxidant activity.
