Abstract
Chinese modern science education came into being in new schoolrooms during the period of Learning Advanced Foreign Affairs Movement. During the process of its emergence and development, traditional culture has been constantly playing a very important role in China. On one hand, the science education tradition in ancient China has laid the cultural basis for the emergence of modern science education; on the other hand, the hot disputes and influences resulting from the implementation of the science education in modern times, as well as the traditional teaching style's impact on scientific spirit of modern education reveal the obstructing function of the traditional culture to modern science education.
