Abstract

This paper reviews the literatures of the urban spatial structure impacts of public transport in terms of urban form structure, land use structure, urban functional areas changes and transit-oriented development. The results reflect that the public transport can guide the development of urban spatial structure and have an effect on the land use structure along the transit line under certain conditions, the response of commercial and residential space to the public transport is more prominent.Since 1990s,the research of transit-oriented development has become new hot spot. Then the comparison of foreign and domestic researches show that they are mainly empirical studies and have similar methods;the width and depth of their studies are different because of the background and the initial differences;besides research angle and scale differences are obvious. In all, foreign studies are more integrated than domestic studies. It's better for domestic researchers to strengthen the theoretical system of urban space structure, expand the study contents and diversify the methods in future.
