Abstract
Objective To evaluate the changes of left ventricular hypertrophy and left ventricular function in essential hypertensive patients receiving telmisartan-based therapy with or without simvastatin.Method Forty-one patients with essential hypertension combined with left ventricular hypertrophy were randomized into the control group(Group N),the telmisartan-based therapy group, and the telmisartan-based plus simvastatin therapy group(Group T).The study period lasted for one year.Result(1)The blood pressure of the patients with simple essential hypertension combined with left ventricular hypertrophy was high;(2)The telmisartan-based plus simvastatin therapy was more effective in decreasing the systolic blood pressure than group N;(3)Afer 1-year treatment, the parameters of left ventricular hypertrophy in both two groups were improved, and the ejection fraction was elevated more significantly in group T than that in group N(57.50 ± 16.41% vs 65.43 ± 11.60%,P 0.01).The left ventricular hypertrophy was ameliorated and the left ventricular systolic function was improved markedly in group T;(4)The left atrium inner diameter in group T was significantly decreased(P 0.01),and the ratio of E /A and the left ventricular systolic function were also reduced in group T.Conclusion Simvastatin treatment could efficiently ameliorate left ventricular hypertrophy and improve the left ventricular systolic function, but it has no benefit of improving the left ventricular diastolic function.
