Abstract
Objective To summarize the clinical experience with open total extraperitoneal herniorrhaphy and to explore the value for inguinal hernia repair. Methods The clinical data of 84 patients with inguinal hernia who underwent open total extraperitoneal herniorrhaphy were retrospectively analyzed. Results A total of 108 open totally extraperitoneal herniorrhaphy were performed in 84 patients. The mean operative time was 45 minutes for unilateral hernia and 70 minutes for bilateral hernia(range 30 to 110 minutes). The mean duration of hospital stay was 4.8 days.Among the 84 patients, scrotum hematomas or seromas occurred in 2 cases, wound fat liquefaction in 1 case, and inguinal pain in 1 case. All patients were cured and discharged from hospital. After 4 to 34 months of follow-up,no recurrence occurred in these patients. Conclusion Open totally extraperitoneal herniorrhaphy is a safe, simple and effective method for inguinal hernia repair, and can reduce operating costs and relieve postoperative groin pain.
