Abstract
On the basis of the data on heavy metal contents of soils sampled from 29 depth profiles in the periurban zone of Beijing city, the status of soil pollution by heavy metals was studied by use of background contents of these elements under the natural soil condition. Meanwhile, the correspondence analysis method was employed to study spatial differentiation of metal heavy pollution of the studied soils. The study indicades that on the whole the most of heavy metal existing in the investigated soils did not resulted in obvious pollution. However, mild degree of Hg pollution in some soils was detected. It was also demonstrated that there were no significant spatial differentiation in contents of heavy metals in the soils,except Hg.
