Abstract

Objective: To explore the diagnostic value of computed tomography(CT) for the intraventricular and cisternal neurocysticercosis. Methods: Characteristic CT appearances of 61 patients with the intraventricular and cisternal neurocysticercosis verified by clinic were retrospectively analyzed. All patients had precontrast study of CT, and 13 cases had postcontrast study. Results: Of all the cases, there were three types: intraventricular neurocysticercosis 38, cisternal neurocysticercosis 18, mixed type 5. Within the intraventricular neurocysticercosis(38 cases), the cyst showed round and oval; single and multiple the intraventricular neurocysticercosis were detected in 31 and 7 patients respectively. Within the cisternal neurocysticercosis(18 cases), the cyst demonstrated lobulated (2 cases) and the resembled cluster of grapes(16 cases); all the cases were single. There were total 52 cystic lesions of 38 intraventricular neurocysticercosis. Of all the 52 cystic lesions, 33 scolexes(63.5%)could be well seen. None of the scolex in 18 cases of the cisternal neurocysticercosis could be found. Conclusion: CT has the great value for the diagnosis of intraventricular and cisternal neurocysticercosis.
