Interventional treatment of arteriovenous malformation of brain

Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the interventional treatment by embolization of intracranial arteriovenous malformation.Methods:In the past 14 months, 8 patients (mean age, 32.3 yr; 5 males, 3 females) with AVM were underwent endovascular therapy in our department. 7 patients presented with intracranial hematoma while 1 with epilepsy. All of the AVMs were located supratentorialy (two SpetzlerMartin grade Ⅱ, four grade Ⅲ and two grade Ⅳ). 7 nidi were embolized with NBCA, 1 with coils. 7 patients received operation or radiotherapy after embolization. Results:The AVM nidi shrinked 56.1% averagely in 8 patients. 1 nidus was totally obliterated by embolization. 1 patient presented parent artery spasm during catheterization which was released after intrarterial pavarine infusion. No therapy related neurological deficit occurred in our group.Conclusion:Endovascular therapy is safty mini-invasive therapy for AVM. It palys important role in assistance of operation or radiotherapy.
