Abstract
Against the problem of differential settlement of new and old subgrade in highway widening engineering in soft foundation, finite element calculation is carried out to analyze the impact of new subgrade as an additional load on old subgrade and foundation. The result showed that filling of the widened subgrade will cause differential settlement between the old road shoulder and the center of subgrade, which would easily cause vertical cracks on subgrade.Through calculation and analysis after parameters change,it is recommended to take the measures of widening, subgrade filling and soft foundation treatment to control and reduce the impact of widened section on the settlement of original subgrade.
