Abstract

With continuous exploitation of marine resources in recent years, agrowing number of submarine pipelines(oil, gas, etc.)have been used to transport offshore oil and gas resources to the land. These pipelines are chronically buried in the seafloor covered with shallow water and are vulnerable to waves, tides or other hydrodynamic forces.Once they are dangled or broken, not only large amount of economic loss will be caused, but also a serious marine pollution can possibly be produced, hence bringing about greater social adverse effects. Therefore,it is very important to detect the submarine pipelines termly. For the purpose of maintenance,it is necessary to know the actual state of submarine pipelines after their laying and the extent and position of the pipeline damages. The analysis of Hainan 8submarine pipeline indicates that a comprehensive detection by using echo sounder,SES-96high-precision shallow stratum profiler and side-scan sonar is more effective.
