Pitiable Defence and Merciless Refutation to Self-esteem:A New view on Kong Yiji

This paper analyses the famous novel Kong Yiji with new eyes.People interpreted the novel incorrectly for many years.In this paper,the author thinks that the theme of the novel is not to expose and condemn the imperial examination system or even the feudal education system,but to expose the coldness to the poor suffered,and to embody Lu Xun's thinking over Chinese national character throughthe conflict between Kong Yiji's pitiable defence to his own self-esteem and the others' wilfully trampling upon Kong's self-esteem.
