Abstract

Objective To explore the curative effect of esophageal carcinoma treated with external irradiation and intracavitary irradiation. Methods One hundred and sixty -two patients with esophageal carcinoma was divided in two groups. The treatment group was given external irradiation and intracavitary irradiation, the control group was given external irradiation. Results The significant effective rate and the total effective rate of treatment group were 60.49% (49/81) and 91.36% (74/81) respectively; the significant effective rate and the total effective rate of control group were 41.98% (34/81) and 71.60% (58/81) respectively, there were significant differences between the two groups ( P 0.05). Conclusion External irradiation and intracavitary irradiation in esophageal carcinoma achieve significant therapy clinical curative effect, reduce the recurrence rate and improve the quality of life in patients with esophageal carcinoma.
