Abstract

By using an oceanic general circulation model based on the isopycnal coordinate, the effect of the change of local mixing coefficient on local sea surface temperature(SST) was examined. The result showed that SST in the central-eastern tropical Pacific and the eastern boundary was very sensitive to the change of local mixing coefficient, while the effect to the western Pacific was poor. The magnitude of the effect was mainly dependent on the depth of the local thermocline. In addition, the temperature difference between the sea surface and the thermocline may also affect the local SST.
