Abstract

English grammar and Chinese grammar surely have their own different characteristics, regularities and research traditions.Since Mr Ma's Grammar was published, the pattern of Western grammar has become the only standard of the world in this field. From a perspective of the philosophy of language, grammar does not merely mean morphology and syntax but also the law of the organization of the language, which includes the patterns, methods, approaches and the process of language organization.Based on the above understanding, this paper makes a thorough contrastive study on the essential differences and similarities between English grammar and Chinese grammar, distinguishes the formal grammar from the semantic grammar, and finally analyzes the deep-rooted causes of their emergence.
