Study on Regional Economic Disparity of Shandong Province Based on Different Spatial Scales

Analyzing regional economic disparity is significant to both academic enquiry and government policy.The recent papers on economic geography imply that spatial scale has been playing an important role in the economic geographical processes.With the increasing availability of data,this paper employs Coefficient Variance and Theil Index to analyze the difference degrees of regional economic development in Shandong since 1990 sat diverse spatial scales,i.e.three major economic blocks,17 cities,121counties.The result shows that the smaller spatial scale,the greater difference degree there is——a decreasing sequence:counties,cities,blocks.But according to the trends,it is also discovered that the contribution of difference degrees among blocks to the difference of the economic development in whole province is increasing.For the three economic blocks,the middle part of Shandong Province brings out the greater difference degrees in economic development than those of the eastern and southern part of Shandong Province.
