Abstract
In order to demonstrate and evaluate the deformation stability of rock mass for the arch dam abutment of a hydropower station of the Jinshajiang River,FLAC3D numerical simulation was conducted to study stress and deformation-failure features of the rock mass of dam abutment under the condition of excavation, designed load and overload, and to evaluate its stability and overloading capacity. The test results show that the rock mass of dam abutment under the condition of designed load is in a stable state. The conclusion was drawn that there are sufficient safety storage in the dam abutment rock mass because its safety degree under normal case and suitable deformation are 2 and 6,respectively.
