Abstract

Epoxy resin has excellent mechanical properties and adhesive properties. It also possesses some disadvantages, such as brittleness, poor toughness and internal stress curing generated during curing, limiting its application fields.Research development in epoxy toughening, which include polyurethane toughening epoxy resin and thermotropic liquid crystal polymer toughening epoxy resin is reviewed. Also, the prospects of modified epoxy resin are addressed.Polyurethane possesses the characteristics of high flexibility, abrasion resistance, tear resistance, good compatibility with epoxy resin;and the thermal type liquid crystal polymer modified epoxy resin curing system is the integration of LCD order and keeps the characteristics of the epoxy resin cross-linked network, which greatly improve the toughness and impact strength, without reducing the heat resistance. Therefore, the modification of epoxy resin using polyurethane, thermotropic liquid crystal polymer can significantly improve its mechanical properties, realize its application in many fields.
