Abstract
Expansin is a group of cell-wall-localized proteins which induce expansion of cell wall. By using PCR method, partial sequences of α-expansin genes were amplified from cDNA of papaya fruit. The sequence of 531 bp encodes a polypeptide of 177 amino acids, named Cp-EXP1. The success of cloning expansin gene from papaya builds a great base for the study of the development and growth and varietal improvement of papaya.
