The Comprehensive Evaluation of Sustainable Development of Chengdu

Chengdu is one of the fast developing cities in the inland area,but on the other hand it has many problems in developing sustainably.It is very necessary for us to evaluate the degree of sustainable development and to define the distinguish ing method of sustainable development in carrying out the sustainable developm ent strategy of Chengdu. Based on the theroy of regional sustainable development , this article puts forward the index system for sustainable development, and th en appraises comprehensively the degree of sustainable development from 1993 to 1997 in Chengdu. The assessment results show that Chengdu has not entered the st age of weak sustainable development until the period of the ninth Five-year Pla n.
