Cefuroxime Plus cefuroxime axetil vs cefoperazone in treatment of lower respiratory tract infections

A randomized controlled clinical trial on cefuroxime plus cefuroxime axetil compared with cefoperazone was conducted for the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections.Thirty-four patients(M 27,F 7;age 53±s16a)were treated with cefuroxime 750mg,iv,gtt,tid for 5 d, followed by cefuroxime axetil 500 mg po, bid for 5 d.Another 34 patients (M18,F 16;age 55±14a)were treated with cefoperazone 1 g iv,gtt,tid for 10 d.Efficacy rates of the two groups were 97% and 94%,respectively,the bacterial clearance rates were 97% and 94% respectively,both P0.05.Adverse reaction rates were 3% and 6%,respectively.
