On the Two Kinds of Spiritual Civilization in the Development of Social History

Both the socialist spiritual civilization and the capitalist spiritual civilization are the inevitable product in the development of social history. However, because of the differences in social formation, the two spiritual civilizations are sharply different in guiding ideology, the object of service, social moralities and cultural construction. Still, they have some common ground in the representations of civilization progress of mankind. In China, when spiritual civilization construction is one of the chief concerns, it is important to stick to socialist political direction and guiding ideology and meanwhile to draw on the positive elements of capitalist spiritual civilization.
