Abstract
Objective To study the effectiveness of medicine MA on the survival condition of cancer patients in chemotherapy periods. Methods To observe the changing of the appetite, normal food amount, weight, gastrointestinal effect and whole body conditions between the CT+MA group and single CT group, in which a Karnofsky performance status was adopted for evaluating the whole body conditions. Results MA had a significant improvement on the appetite, normal food amount, weight gain and whole body conditions for the most patients observed, while relieving the gastrointestinal effect in chemotherapy. Of the 50 patients enrolled in the CT+MA group, 82 percent patients had appetite improvement, 78% had more food amount, 30% gain more weight(increment≥0.5kg),34% had no obvious gastrointestinal effect in the chemotherapy such as vomiting and nausea, and 66% had improved the survival condition according to the KPS score (increment≥10). In contrast, of the 50 patients in the single CT group, no one had improvement on the appetite and normal food amount, while only 4% had no vomiting and nausea, 6% had improved the survival condition. The distinct differences exist between the 2 groups. Conclusion The MA has quite obvious improvement on the appetite food amount, weight gain and survival condition, while relieving the gastrointestinal effect during chemotherapy.
