Abstract

It is well known that bursa of Fabricius in birds is the central lymphoid organ of B lymphocytes. How about the relationship between the appendix and the bursa of Fabricius is unknown. In order to determine whether the B lymphocytes come from bursa of Fabricius, the development of B lymphocytes is studied by means of bursectomy after hatching and acid α naphthyl acetate esterase staining. The results suggested that B lymphocytes in appendix mainly come from the bursa of Fabricius.Compare to the non bursectomized chicken, fewer B lymphocytes and germ center are in the appendix of bursectomized chicken. However, further study about the B lymphocyte differentiation in appendix is needed.
