Abstract

Objective To evaluate the modified early warning score(MEWS) and its dynamic change in the assessment of the severity in acute pancreatitis. Methods 103 patients with acute pancreatitis were divided into mild and severe groups. The first and second day after admission,MEWS scores and dynamic changes(△MEWS),Ranson score and acute physiology and chronic health score(APACHE Ⅱ score) were recorded, and the cutoff value by ROC curve were compared. Results The patients MEWS score and dynamic changes(△MEWS),Ranson score and APACHE Ⅱ scores were significantly different(P0.01).The area under the ROC curves predicting acute pancreatitis were 0.733,0.745,0.767,and 0.792.There were no significant differences(P0.05).Conclusion MEWS score and its dynamic change(△MEWS) can be used to assess the severity of acute pancreatitis.MEWS score is simple, early screening for severe acute pancreatitis.
