Microsurgery treatment for meningiomas of the cerebellopontine angle:a report of 40 cases

Objective To explore the surgical approach and microsurgical technique for treating meningiomas of the cerebellopontine angle(CPA).Methods Fourty patients with CPA large and giant meningiomas treated with microneurosurgery were analyzed retrospectively.All cases were used by suboccipital retrosigmoidal approach.Results 32 patients received total removal(Simpson Ⅰ、Ⅱ),and the total removal rate was 80%.2 patients died after the operation.The condition improved in 32 patients and persisted in 4 patients.Conclusion It is possible to ideally remove the cerebellopontine angle tumor and improve the patient's life quality via choosing the adequate approach rationally,managing and protecting the vessels,nerves and brain stem carefully through microsurgical technique.
