Abstract
Objective To study the effects of intense pulsed light(IPL) on collagens and mRNA expression of collagenⅠ,collagen Ⅲ in rat skin, and elucidate the mechanism of IPL.Methods 24 SD rats were irradiated on their left sides of the back with IPL,and their right sides were selected as control areas. We divided rats into four groups by time of irradiation.Skin specimens were taken both from treated and control areas after 1 week,2 weeks,4weeks and 8 weeks IPL treatments.Histological changes were observed by hematoxylin-eosin-staining,Masson trichrome staining, and mRNA expression levels of collagenⅠand collagen Ⅲ were detected by real-time quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) .Results No obvious changes were seen at 1 week,2 weeks. At week 4 and week 8,the staining of collagen was stronger in treated areas than in control areas, and the mRNA expression levels of collagens were also increased at week 4 and week 8(P0.05) .Conclusion IPL can increase collagen production in rat skin.
