Abstract

A new extraction kinetic spectrophotometric method for the determination of activator 1,10-phenanthroline was studied. The method was based on the activation of 1,10-phenanthroline on the copper(Ⅱ) catalyzed oxidation of o-aminophenol by hydrogen peroxide in weak acidic medium. The reaction time, concentration of o-aminophenol in aqueous phase, and degree of reaction were controlled by extraction equilibrium. The absorbance of organic phase was measured at 424 nm. The linear ranges of the method were 2.00×10-8-6.00×10-6 mol·L-1 and 6.00 ×10-6-1.25 × 10-5 mol·L-1. The detection limit was 6.2 ×10-9 mol-L-1. The method has been applied to the determination of the stability of 1,10-phenanthroline in water with satisfactory results.
