Abstract

Objective To evaluate quantitative observation with ultrasonography and sialography in the diagnosis of parotid gland involvement in Sjogren syndrome. Methods Ultrasonography and sialography were conducted on 28 cases with primary Sjogren syndrome according to new international criteria and 35 without primary Sjogren syndrome were studied. Lip gland biopsies were done together in the confirmation with the two methods. Results The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of ultrasonography were 93%,91% and 80% respectively, while those of sialography were 86%,92% and 78% respectively. Two methods were of no significant difference statistically(P 0.05). Conclusions As for diagnosis of Sjogren syndrome,ultrasonography examination is the first choice,and for atypical ones,lip gland biopsiy follows.
