Abstract

Objective: To investigate the morphology and the blood supply of the medical geniculate body, providing the pathogenic evidence for aged patients with auditory defects. Methods: The regional anatomy morphology of the medial geniculate body was observed in 60 aged cerebral hemispheres. The arterial origins, branches and distribution of the medial geniculate body were investigated under operation microscope. The pathological changes of the medial geniculate body arteries were examined under light microscope. Results: The medial geniculate body was a paired organ with the shape of half-ball on the posterior portion of the thalamus. The arterial supply of medial geniculate body arose from branches of the posterior cerebral artery, such as thalmogeniculate artery, medial and lateral posterior choroidal arteries and collicularis arteries, and 88.3% of the posterior cerebral artery with atherosclerosis. Conclusion: The blood supply of medial geniculate body comes from branches of the posterior cerebral artery. In diagnosis and treatment of the aged patients with unreasoned dysacusis, the atherosclerosis of the blood vessel supplying the medial geniculate body should be considered.
