Abstract
The morphology of a polymer blend is mainly determined by the compatibility between components in the polymer blending system. Therefore, the precise characterization of the compatibility in the polymer blending system becomes imperative.Several useful methods for characterization of compatibility in polymer blending systems were briefly reviewed, and the emphasis was put on the introduction of a newly-developed method in which polymer-polymer interaction parameters (Flory-Huggins parameters) could be calculated through a series of equations, based on the measurements on the migration of glass transition temperatures of polymer components in the blending systems. The Flory-Huggins parameters will give a clear and quantitative characterization on the extent of compatibility in the partly miscible polymer-polymer blends, with simple treatments and good applicability.
