Clinical Observation of Uterine Artery Embolization in the Treatment of Uterine Myoma

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of uterine artery embolization as a treatment of uterine myoma.Methods Twenty-seven patients with uterine myoma were treated by intra-arterial embolization of PVA particles.Results All cases were observed with a follow up of 3 to 17 months after the treatment.The success rate of the operation was 96.3%.The marked diminishment of tumor size(50%)accounted in 30.77% of the patients at 3 months after the procedure, with 4 UM disappeared completely.The change of blood dynamics showed that the image of artery disappeared at both 24 hours and 3 months after operation.There was no notable difference in the level of sex hormone after UAE.Post-UAE leiomyomas showed hyaline-type necrosis.Conclusion Uterine artery embolization is a safe and effective procedure with less trauma,minimal pain,less complications and a rapid rehabilitation.
