Clinical observation on laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernia in children

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of laparoscopic repair of inguinal hernia in children.Methods 41 inguinal hernias in 36 children between 1～12 years of age were treated by laparoscopic surgery using a single trocar hole.Of 36 children,31 cases showed unitaleral hernia,5 cases presented bilateral hernias.Of the unitaleral hernias,4 were occult hernias.All the patients were treated by purse-string suture around the internal ring under direct vision with laparoscopy.Results Operative time was from 12 to 25(average17) minutes.There were no intra-or post-operative complications.All were followed up for 6～24 (average17.6) months,with no recurrences.Conclusion Laparoscopic hernia repair in children is less traumatic with less incision,slighter pain,faster postoperative recovery,simpler operation,and is a real micro-traumatic operation.It can also be used for the treatment of occult and bilateral inguinal hernias and can be widely used in clinic.
