Numerical simulation of two-phase cavitation flow in impeller of centrifugal pumps with high specific speed

Abstract

In order to investigate into the cavitating flow in centrifugal pumps with high specific speed,numerical simulation of stationary cavitation turbulent flow in the whole flow passage of a centrifugal pump with specific speed as 177 was carried out by using a full cavitation model and a mixed two-phase flow model.The major flow feature of liquid phase and cavity phase was analyzed on the basis of calculation result,and the distribution of static pressure on blade was also analyzed in the process of cavitation.The intrinsic characteristics of cavitation and two-phase flow in impeller was revealed and the results of simulation were basically in consistence with that of actual centrifugal pump in connection with its effect and damage.
