THE ARTIFICIAL INCUBATION STUDIES ON SILVER PHEASANT AND SWINHOE'S PHEASANT

Abstract

The artificial incubation of Silver pheasant (Lophura nycthemera) and Swinhoe's pheasant (Lophura swinhoei) were studied from March to June 1995. Sixteen fertilized eggs and 8 nestlings of Silver pheasant, 13 fertilized eggs and 13 nestlings of Swinhoe's pheasant were studied. The result are as followings: The egg size, Elongation, weight coefficient and incubation period of Silver pheasant are similiar to those of the Swinhoe's pheasant (P 0. 05). The initial egg weight, weight loss and rate of weight loss are different between the two species (P 0. 05). The relationship between egg weight and incubation day are: Y1=0. 27 X1 +43. 438, r2 =0. 984 (Silver pheasant), Y2= -0. 22 X2 +40. 245, r2= 1 (Swinhoe's pheasant). At here, X =incubation day, Y =mean egg weight.
