Antimicrobial Activity of Pomegranate Peel Extract

12 species of common food contaminating microorganisms were used as tested microorganism,and the antimicrobial activity of 9 solvents extracts of 10 varieties pomegranate peel were studied by using the plate diluting method.The results showed that the antimicrobial activity of methanol extract was the most potent.The antibacterial activity of pomegranate peel extract was more effective than the yeast-anti activity.The extract could hardly inhibit the growth of mildew.The methanol extract of 'Yichengruanzi' had the highest antibacterial activity in 10 tested varieties.The antibacterial activity of external tissue of peel was the highest.A preliminary test of chemical constituents in the methanol extract from pomegranate peel showed it contained flavones and its glucosides,alkaloids,phenol components,tannins,etc.
