Abstract

Dehydroabietylamine was separated from disproportionated rosin amine and purified. Then, two novel betaine-type amphoteric surfactants,N-dehydroabietyl-N,N-dimethyl carboxymethyl betaine and its chloride, were synthesized from the intermediate N,N-dimethyl dehydroabietylamine. The structures of the target products were characterized by UV, IR and MS spectroscopy. Furthermore, the surface tension and critical micelle concentration (CMC) of the chloride were determined.
