Ancient Cities in the Perspective of Cultural Studies-Cultural Origin and Spiritual Structure of China Northern and Southern Cities in Ancient Times

Ancient times are of groundbreaking significance for the Chinese civilization and the same applies to China urban culture. In Ancient times of Xia,Shang and Zhou dynasties,the city is in the independent development away from the countryside and castles. The city and urban culture began to be in shape. The cities began to have their own features in north and south. In northern cities,urban culture conditions are in earlier transformation after the production conditions broke through compared with that of southern cities. So the development of urban culture was in a quicker pace. For a long time,the northern capital in every major change had not only realized the formation of a new city center but also caused another consequence. The former distant cities were gathering as urban clusters because the northern cities were more likely relying on political power. In ancient times,Jiangnan ritual and music cultures are integrated with the culture in Central Plains. Southern cities have gradually formed a stable feature. It is not yet a separate planning system,basically in accordance with the cities on the northern plains. Such a research will deeply reveal the culture of ancient cities and pave the way for exploring the cultural landscape in China's urbanization today.
